Why You Should Plan a Trip to Robertson County This Summer
Article sponsored by Robertson County Economic Development
Whether you’re picking out an Orlinda Melon Company watermelon on a Saturday morning from the Robertson County Farmers Market at the fairgrounds (Orlinda is “the sunniest spot in Tennessee,” after all) or swinging by one of historic downtown Springfield’s 1st Friday Night Markets for vendors including farmers, creators, bakers, makers, crafters and food trucks; live music; a specialty car cruise-in; and a free kids’ zone, Robertson County, Tennessee, offers no shortage of summer fun.
Between five different community farmers markets, many family-owned and -operated farm stores, and ongoing summer festivals, there is something for a solo day trip, a weekend getaway with friends or an overnight adventure with family.
Start your morning in Orlinda at Bernard Farms Custom Cuts and Market with a sausage biscuit (regular or smoked, they’re both drool worthy) and check out their meat and other local and regionally sourced selections. Beginning in May and running through October, catch the Orlinda Farmers Market at this stop on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Stop by Hancock Family Farm and market store as you travel through Springfield. You’ll want to grab some Hancock-exclusive Red River variety tomatoes and a sweet finish to breakfast with a salted caramel donut. Afterward, head to Corbin Creek Greenhouse to pick up house plants, garden starts and décor (retired and active-duty military members receive a 20% discount).
Continue west through beautiful backroads to Head’s Farm in Cedar Hill for a selection of jams, local meats, fresh eggs and seasonal produce at their country store. Then, head north to Adams to visit Shade Tree Farm & Orchard, where July ushers in blueberry season. Follow them on Facebook to make berry picking reservations and sign up for fun events like their blueberry pie-making workshop or blueberry pancake breakfast. When apple season comes along in August, visit the farm to pick your own apples or purchase some in the farm’s market store. Either way, you won’t want to leave without a cold apple cider slushie.
