“Take a book, leave a book” libraries are popping up all over the place – including Ellington Agricultural Center in Nashville. The little library is packed with agriculture books to teach young people about farming and where their food comes from.

Since agriculture education is such a focus for the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA), adding community libraries is a great way to share information with the many visitors to the popular trails around the 207-acre campus.

TDA employees Denise Woods, hemp program coordinator, and Baylee Burk, produce safety inspector, took lead on this project and facilitated it from start to finish.

“Every day is a good day to read, and starting young helps kids develop a lifelong love of reading,” Woods says. “We encourage parents to visit our libraries with their children to take a book and leave a book.”

Visit one of the four libraries at the center in the iris garden, the koi pond, Cul2vate Farm and the Tennessee Agricultural Museum. All are welcome to come and take an agriculture book to share with a young reader. If you wish to donate books, you can drop them in the collection boxes in front of the museum, and they will be exchanged for agriculture books.
