Visit the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in downtown Bristol to learn about the 1927 Bristol Sessions, the historic series of recording sessions that sparked what is now often referred to as the “big bang of country music.” An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the award-winning museum explores the fascinating story behind the sessions and their lasting impact on music throughout the last century.

During the second weekend in September each year, the museum also hosts the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, a music festival celebrating the city’s heritage as the birthplace of country music. The festival highlights the best in Appalachian roots music, showcasing a diverse lineup of more than 100 bands on 17 stages.
