Live jazz music takes center stage at Murfreesboro’s annual Main Street JazzFest on the first weekend in May.

Started in 1997, JazzFest attracts more than 15,000 people and features the music of area jazz bands and ensembles on two stages. The event is held on Murfreesboro’s historic square, and admission is free.

Musicians play Friday evening and all day Saturday, and performers include Percussion XS, an all-percussion group; Jazzmin, a vocal ensemble from Belmont University; the Music City Swing, a big band with a big sound; the U.S. Army Jazz Guardians; and more than a dozen middle and high school bands.

The fun-filled weekend also includes a free Kid’s Alley with inflatables, a jazz clinic, garden market and food vendors. It’s a great opportunity to grab a polish sausage or a funnel cake and people-watch on Murfreesboro’s charming square.

While in town, explore some of Murfreesboro’s other attractions, such as the kid-friendly Discovery Center at Murfree Spring or the historic Stones River National Battlefield. For more information, visit www.mainstreetjazzfest.com or call (615) 895-1887.
