Milling Around at Ketner’s Mill
For one weekend a year, Ketner’s Mill in Whitwell produces water-ground, self-rising cornmeal, made from corn grown in the Sequatchie Valley.
The mill was in full-time production until the death of Clyde Ketner, the original owner’s grandson, in 1992. Today, it opens just prior to the Ketner’s Mill Country Arts Fair, held annually on the third weekend of October.

Visitors can step back in time to the days of the pioneers with a weekend filled with old-fashioned events such as wagon rides, artisan demonstrations, clogging, bluegrass and even donkey-powered sorghum production. The event also features a variety of other entertainment, plus handmade crafts, a farm animal petting zoo and plenty of food, from funnel cakes to bags of its signature cornmeal and grits.
This year’s fair takes place Oct. 17-18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Find out more at ketnersmill.org, or call (423) 267-5702.
