Good Winter Reads
Cold winter days are perfect for cozying up to the fireplace with a great book. Check out these two new books from authors in Tennessee:
You may remember the Team Long Brothers story in our Spring 2014 issue about Conner and Cayden Long, who compete together in youth triathlons.
Cayden was born with cerebral palsy, so Conner participates in the events while pulling his brother along. Their mother, Jenny Long, has written a book, Expect a Miracle, which tells her story of overcoming challenges to raise two amazing boys through faith and love.
For the sports history fan on your shopping list, try Strong Inside by Nashville-based author Andrew Maraniss. The book profiles Perry Wallace, the first African-American basketball player in the SEC. Wallace was recruited by Vanderbilt University and triumphed as a trailblazing athlete, engineering double major, law school graduate and university professor in the 1960s, when race and civil rights were at the forefront of American culture. Maraniss’ book dives deeper not only into sports history but a pivotal time of transition in American history.
