Newport Clock Business Ticks Away

2 Comments By

Rhyne Clock Co. is still ticking away in Newport, Tennessee. Known for its stately grandfather clocks, the company – a second-generation family business – began as a lumberyard in the early 1900s and eventually started manufacturing furniture parts. Now grandfather clocks are the focus, and all the cases are made onsite by hand.

“I think people remember grandfather clocks from their childhood, and they like to have them sing every quarter-hour,” says Patsy Rhyne Williams, who owns the company with her husband, Bill.

“It’s a keepsake, something to hand down to the next generation.”

The factory outlet showroom is filled with some 50 grandfather clocks as well as a dozen wall clocks and as many mantle clocks.

“At 12 o’clock it gets a little noisy,” Williams says with a laugh. “They sing a little tune and then chime 12 times.”

The showroom is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and visitors can see craftsmen in action from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call (423) 623-2324 for more information.

I purchased a mantle clock from you around 1999 or 2000. I don’t know how but the tiny little ferrell/ nut that holds tha hands on the clock came off, and must have fallen on the floor when I opened the door to rewind the clock. Do you sell that particular item ? If not, can you please tell me where I can find one. I am located in the Memphis area.

Also, please tell my good friend, Connie Frisby, that I said – HELLO !!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance for your help.
