Sleep ‘Inn’ Style at Murfreesboro’s Byrn-Roberts
Published Mar 01, 2007

Byrn Roberts Inn

Every guest to the Byrn-Roberts Inn in Murfreesboro ends up in front of the portrait of Charles Byrn, who walked into town barefoot and without a job more than 100 years ago. In quick order he became a successful businessman and built the house that guests now call home for a night or two (or more, if they’re lucky).

“We like to think he’d be happy with what we’ve done,’’ says Julie Becker, now co-owner of the inn with her husband, David.

Each of the five guestrooms ($140-$225 nightly) goes back to the future, offering working fireplaces and elegant furnishings from bygone years paired with 21st-century conveniences. Look, for example, for a DVD player to be tucked away in an armoire, enjoy the ultra-modern shower, and revel in the quality linens.

The public rooms are a study in quiet indulgence, with nooks and sitting places geared to rest and reflection. There’s a swing on the porch out front and a koi pond out back. Inside, a modern fitness center calls the old sleeping porch home.

The inn also is a stroll away from Murfreesboro’s town square (and its dinner options). The hearty breakfast is served in the formal dining room – but the Beckers and their friendly shelties provide a down-home, comfortable feel.

Yes, Charles Byrn would be happy.
