Companion Plants for Tennessee Gardens
Published Mar 09, 2010

One of our followers on Twitter asked us for good suggestions for companion planting. Here’s the response from our gardening gurus:

What is companion planting?
Companion planting is the theory that some plants benefit others when planted close to each other.

Which plants in particular are good for companion gardening?
• Nasturtiums and calendula are good selections for a variety of vegetables.
• Marigolds and basil are good companion plants for tomatoes.
• Borage is a good companion plant for broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage.
• Dill is a great companion for cucumbers – especially if you plan to can pickles!

What companion plants are in your garden?
