African Violets

Located on a 35-acre piece of property in Nashville is the world’s largest producer of African violets. Holtkamp Greenhouses, owned by German native Reinhold Holtkamp and his family, is a pioneer in creating new – and improved – African violet varieties, with more than 600 developed.

Thanks to the Holtkamp family’s pioneering research, almost every African violet commercially grown today has “semper florescence” – no more dropping of flowers at the slightest jostle. Holtkamp Greenhouses, through its product line called Optimara, has sparked the enthusiasm of collectors as well as everyday gardeners looking for a showy but hardy indoor plant.
