Rogersville Jelly Is Berry Tasty
Published Mar 01, 2006

Buying farm-fresh jams, jellies, salsas and fruit butter from Davidson Farm and Country Store in Rogersville means supporting a family tradition – and moving it into the future.

Like many these days, fourth-generation farmer Bill Davidson Jr. diversified his burley tobacco crop to stay afloat. The family now grows strawberries, sweet corn, cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins, heirloom green beans, grapes – and more – on 600 acres, and their homegrown products are sold from the family’s century-old refurbished country store.

Their tasty canned products are cooked up and packaged in a nearby community kitchen through the Appalachian Springs Cooperative, a marketing association for family farmers.

Made with hand-picked strawberries, raspberries, grapes and blackberries, the four-fruit jam is a popular new product – and Davidson’s personal favorite. Pumpkin butter is another big seller, especially around the holidays.

Davidson Country Store opens when the strawberries are ripe and closes at Halloween, but its canned goods are available year-round by calling 423-345-2704.
