Aptly named, the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant sits among trees in an apple orchard that dates back to 1976. The restaurant serves up the fruit in many of its signature dishes, including apple fritters topped with apple butter.

The moment you step inside the cozy parlor of Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant in Sevierville, you know you’re in for a treat.

From the crackling fire that warms the parlor to the built-in oak furniture and waitresses scurrying about in matching cotton dresses and aprons, the restaurant radiates a comfortable, homey feeling. And the menu options certainly add to that aura – comfort foods like Southern fried chicken, pork chops, country-style steak, fried catfish, smoked country ham with red-eye gravy, roast turkey and dressing, and meatloaf rival Mama’s best home-cooking.

Sunday is perhaps the best day to visit, because Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant serves up quite a spread for its Sunday dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The meal starts off with a basket of warm apple fritters – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside – with homemade apple butter and a small glass of Applewood Julep, a drink made with apple, pineapple and lemon juices.

And if that isn’t enough to whet your appetite, the waitress then brings a steaming bowl of homemade vegetable soup and a garden salad.

The salad is followed by your choice of entrée (nearly 20 choices include everything from roast prime rib to trout cakes), a dinner roll and two vegetables.

About the time you start wondering if you’ll ever be able to eat another bite, the waitress asks what you’d like for dessert: apple cobbler, butterscotch pie or chocolate cake? If you’re too full to partake, never fear – they’re happy to prepare your dessert to go.

Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant opened in a six-room farmhouse along the Little Pigeon River 20 years ago. Its popularity prompted owners to re-create the experience in Gatlinburg – so another Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant now entices visitors at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The original Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant is located on Apple Valley Road off U.S. 441 in Sevierville. The Gatlinburg restaurant can be found on the Gatlinburg Parkway at traffic light #10. Both locations are open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I always take the family and friends to the Applewood farmhouse restaurant when we visit Gatlinburg and stay in a nearby cabin rental. You can always count on great food and it is consistant time after time highly recommended.
