Seeing a goat stiffen up and fall over may be cause for concern in some places, but not in Marshall County.
The county is known for its fainting goats, brought to the area by a Canadian settler in the 1880s. These famous farm animals aren’t actually passing out; the breed suffers from a condition called myotonia, which causes their muscles to tighten up.
Each year, the city of Lewisburg honors this unusual breed with the annual Goats, Music & More Festival, which celebrates other species of goats too. The free festival, which also features music, a barbecue cook-off and a fun run, takes place October 10-11, 2014, at Rock Creek Park in Lewisburg, TN.
