Fresh herbs help perk up any bland recipe. Even if you don’t have the room to grow a grand garden, you can still have fresh herbs right in your kitchen. Here’s what you’ll need to put together a Mason jar herb garden:
- Mason jars (as many as you’d like for each variety of herb)
- potting soil
- various herb seeds
To make your garden, fill the Mason jars almost to the top with soil. Next, add seeds to the designated jar following planting instructions on the seed packet. Cover the seeds with a little more soil, then add just enough water to wet the soil and seeds. Set them on your windowsill so they get some sunlight.

You can also add a bottom layer of rocks to help with drainage and an optional middle layer of charcoal (to prevent mold on the rocks) before adding the soil. Either way, be sure not to overwater the herbs, and watch your garden grow!
