Owned and operated by Farm Bureau member Annie Morton and her husband, Dion Chavez, The Little Farm in Athens, Tennessee, is a small family farm that sustainably produces honey, wool, eggs, strawberries, and other fruits and vegetables.

When the couple moved to the farm with their three young children in 2016, the previous owners had generously left behind two healthy beehives and some beekeeping equipment. After a few years of trial and error – plus some help from the Cherokee Beekeepers Association – Morton and Chavez are now able to provide their community with plenty of sweet local honey, which they harvest, process and bottle one hive at a time.

In addition to the bees, they also keep a flock of about 25 chickens and ducks, grow fruit trees and berries, and raise goats and sheep that keep the land mowed and produce high-quality mohair and wool.

    • Yukica Seymour Vincent says:

Well, local for us is the new “best.” I have always wanted bees but because of severe swelling and allergy to their stings, that’s probably not my reality. However, I enjoy watching their conjoined efforts to amass a wealth of honey. We’ve studied them as a family, watched them with leg baskets full of pollen, and relished the miracle of their honey.
Since we try to limit our sugar intake, we try to use as much organic, local, and natural sweeteners as possible. To say it lightly, we go through lots of honey. We enjoy it in freshly baked breads, honey “very sticky” buns, no bake carob treats, and plain raw “one licks” as my children like to say; a honey drizzle licked off their fingers.
We would really like to support the Little Farm in Athens and what better way to start than by a honey “gratis” celebration. Count on us to share your honey in home baked treats with friends and family. Send us the honey and we’ll send the pics.:o)
