It’s cotton harvest time – a fact well known by West Tennesseans. Tennessee is one of the nation’s top producers of upland cotton, and Memphis serves as headquarters for the National Cotton Council of America. Tennessee annually produces about 550,000-650,000 acres of cotton, which yields as many as 1 million bales.
One bale of cotton produces:
• 215 pairs of jeans
• 3,085 diapers
• 1,256 pillowcases
• 765 men’s dress shirts or 1,217 T-shirts
• 6,436 pairs of women’s briefs or 21,960 women’s handkerchiefs
• $31.3 billion … in the form of 313,600 $100 bills
i love this
Does anyone know, or is there anyone who knows who will tell, what kind of cotton do Tennessee farmers mostly grow? For instance, and I’m just throwing a variety out there as an example of what I mean, but what I mean is, is it Beranda 1? And I know that it probably isn’t, but what I’m asking is, what is it?
